Slow network connections in X.2.3?

I was wondering if anyone might know what could cause machines running X.2.3 to download so slowly from a Dell server. I have two machines running 10.2.3 and 8 machines running 9.2. The machines running 9.2 are much faster transferring files than the machines running 10.2.3. On the 10.2.3 machines a 68mb file takes 6 minutes to download. the 9.1 machines download the file in about a minute. I have tried connecting via appletalk and smb with basically the same results. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

    How are you connecting to the Dell server? AFP services for NT? Have you tried connecting to the Dell with the OS X Macs using SMB instead?

    and with what are you downloading ? with a web-browser ?
