What's best for a MacBook battery?

At home, what is best to preserve the battery efficiency:

 

using the computer with the power plug always on

 

or

 

waiting for the battery to be depleted, charging the computer up to 100%, and keep on

Apple recommends going through a charge cycle once a month:

but always using it on battery will wear it out more quickly than on power as it has a limited number of charge cycles.
