lock screen: how?

ive seen a few screenshots where people have a lock in the menu bar. I vaguely remember that in order to enable it you had to select a certain utility in the utils folder. I went through all of em but couldnt quite find it. I wouldnt mind to be able to lock my screen with having to put password protection on the screensaver.

    Look in the Keychain utility in the Utilities folder. There is a checkbox in there to add the locking feature to your menu bar.

    wow... i had looked through that but didnt think it was that well 'hidden'

    Just for completeness, you could achieve the same effect by using screen effects hot spots -- the keychain menu extra seems to simply invoke the screen saver.
