Yahoo's updated Fantasy Sports app brings mobile drafting to iOS
Yahoo on Thursday released the 2013 version of its Fantasy Sports app for the upcoming NFL season, offering a revamped look, performance improvements, and the ability to draft players from an iPhone or iPad.
Perhaps the biggest draw of Yahoo! Fantasy Sports version 5.0 is the mobile drafting feature, something that users have been requesting for some time. With the updated app, players can pick players, manage their queue, check draft results, and participate in live chats while on the go.
In addition to mobile drafting, a new mock draft function lets players practice before the football season begins, while a redesigned interface promises faster app navigation. Features carried over from previous versions include real-time scores, news, stats, and message board.
Finally, the latest version of Yahoo! Fantasy Sports will later become the central hub for all of the company's fantasy titles, bringing now separate apps for basketball, hockey, and baseball under one title.

Could someone who's into this please explain the appeal of "fantasy sports"?
Long overdue for the draft to get integrated into the mobile app. Yahoo's FF app added a lot of functionality last year, but it still had key functions missing. This forces Yahoo's FF players to still use the desktop browser for certain features, and the real time stat tracker in the mobile app did not work nearly as well as the desktop browser version. And mobile users did not have the option of using Safari, since the stat tracking on the browser used Flash.
Also, the FF app from last year seemed like it was built using Adobe tools, because it lagged like crazy. I'll consider this a win if the mobile app can serve the most vital FF functions, without forcing players to also use the browser-based interface.

An opportunity for a person to prove to their friends/co-workers that they can assemble/organize a team better that the coach (or each other for that matter). Some groups have cash pools they chip into and the winner gets a portion or collection of total pool. I was in one for the Champions league for European football once that a fraction of the pool went to the player who selected the winner and the remainder was used to pay for everyone to get together and watch the final. If you are into a sport, it adds incentive to follow it on a more granule level.
