Where's the Beep? (Question)

Quick question...

Every once and a while I will hear a few beeps come out of my Mac (Beep, Beep, Beep)

Sometimes It happens when I'm not even using it, sometimes I'm just surfing the web and listening to iTunes, but out of nowhere...Beep, Beep, Beep...

Any ideas? Should I be worried?

By the way, the noise is straight out of the case (or maybe the internal speaker) not my external speakers

    What type of mac?

    A TiBook???

I get a screech as opposed to a 'beep' directly from the screen

I get the same sort of beep out of my SP Quicksilver 867. I've had it 5 months and it's still fine, but I've never figured out what it is.

    Dual 1ghz MDD...

Glad to hear I'm not the only one and that it doesn't seem to be fatal

Do you have an LCD? I sometimes got a beep from the screen or something on my Wallstreet PowerBook. Haven't noticed it with my iBook though.

I've got the Apple 22" (which I regretted for a while now that the 23" is 2grand and the 20" is out, especially since I bought it only a few months ago!, but I've seen the 20 and although nice, i like the size of my 22 better, and the 23's resolution is natively so high that there is no way to play games on my pc with any hope of smoothness)

Anyhoo, I'm fairly certain that the beeps came from the case itself not the LCD...

Sorry to bump, but I just wanted to see if anyone else knows what this may be or is having the same thing happen to them....

    Thanks in advance

The "beep" type sounds that come from my qs867 are definately the maxtor hdd spinning up. I noticed it the first time after I installed Jaguar. I have tried everything to keep that drive from spinning down but it always does if i dont access it every 5 minutes.

my 667 TiBook beeps as well, what you need to do is keep track of when it happens and what you were doing at that time like this:

[quote] switching applications... from finder to mail NO FAN plugged in not hot

trying to scroll in OW after switching from the terminal NO FAN plugged in not hot

Typing in OW, NO FAN unplugged not hot

switching applications... from finder to OW NO FAN plugged in not hot

    (cant remember)

scrolling in AIM, NO FAN plugged in not hot

    10.2.3

switching from finder to sys prefs Fan 1 plugged in HOT

dragging a file on the desktop in Finder NO FAN not plugged in not hot

Minimizing a webpage in OW Fan 1 plugged in warm

switching movies in sherlock NO FAN plugged in warm

typing in word NO FAN plugged in not hot

after switching from Safari to AIM and trying to start a new IM window, NO FAN unplugged not hot

command back in safari NO FAN charging warm

clicking a link in Safari NO FAN charging warm

getting info on someone through the buddy list in AIM NO FAN charging warm

I asked a genius at an apple store about it and he said it was the graphics card and that it was normal...

I kinda don't like the fact that it happens and would like a computer that doesn't beep considering all the $ I paid for it....
