When ever I try to open a compressed file, a window pops up saying that stuffit expander has unexpectedly quit. What should I do?

I'm not having the problem, do any of you have the latest version of the expander? I don't know if that's the problem or not.

Try and take it to your local Apple Store (the REAL Genius Bar).

or just delete the prefs of StuffitExp. and try again.
prefs are located in
~/Library/Preferences/

Try deleting the prefs, and redownload the newest version in .dmg format and mounting it with Disk Copy instead.
