Why are finder aliases in 10.8 bigger in file size than the documents?

I noticed that when I make an alias in OSX 10.8.x, the size of the alias is bigger than the actual document. For example, I just printed an article to PDF and it was about 93kb. When I made an alias, the alias size was 2.3MB.

Anybody else notice this?

I never noticed it before but I see that too. That looks like a bug.

Same with Mavericks. Wonder how many OS X versions this has been the case.

    Weird indeed. A 196kb file gets a 2.6MB alias. Running 10.8.4
