Questions about FireWire HD Enclosures and Drivers

OK, so I just got this stunning deal on an internal 120 GB Hard Drive ($110, 7200RPM Maxtor ). I now need to get an enclosure to connect it to my iMac. Are there any driver issues? Are all enclosures made equal? I know I should look for an Oxford 911 chipset, but is there anything else to look for?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

    as far as i know there is no driver issues because there are no drivers. firewire suport is built into the os i think (os X that is, os 9 still requires extensions). plug it in and it works. just get a case that fits your drive size. check out places like owc and mac solutions or do a search for firewire inclosures on google.

    You can find enclosures that do both USB2, USB 1.1 and firewire for the same price as firewire only ones. I'd try to spring for that; not because you need it, but because it does give more flexibility.

    I doubt any are out yet, but didn't Oxford show off a new chipset not that long ago that does Firewire800?

    Thanks for the replies. Paul, I got the Hard Drive at Dell.com... It was a special 15% off that ended the 27th of Feb, IIRC. Just keep checking <a href="http://dealmac.com"; target="_blank">http://dealmac.com</a>; for more good HD deals.

    And I think I'll get the enclosure at newegg.com for $48 shipped. Here's the link: <a href="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=17-146-002"; target="_blank">http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=17-146-002</a>;

    Looks like I'll be getting a 120 GB external HD for $160! And to think I almost bought an 80 GB external for $200.

    Thanks again
