Apple's iPhone 5s and 5c unboxed in new images from China

Just days before the release of Apple's new flagship phones, Chinese Internet users have delivered photos and videos of the new devices' retail packaging.

image

The iPhone 5s box, according to images posted by a user of Chinese forum DGtle.com, follows the familiar iPhone packaging formula in use since the original iPhone ? a rectangular box, slightly longer and wider than the phone itself, with "iPhone 5s" on the side and a head-on product photograph on the box lid. In a slight departure, it appears that the boxes for all iPhone 5s colors will be white rather than color-matched to the device.

The retail package ? which, based on the box's Chinese "hanzi" markings and the included United States-style wall charger that distinguishes them from phones bound for Hong Kong, indicates that these devices are for mainland Chinese consumption ? also includes a Lightning-to-USB cable, a Lightning-to-microUSB adapter, a pair of Apple EarPods, and the wall charger.

Separately, an unboxing video sourced from China's Weibo microblogging service and first reported by Italian blog HDBlog.it purportedly reveals more details about the iPhone 5c, though key divergences from Apple's listed package contents cast doubt on the clip's authenticity.

Featuring a similar design to that of the iPod Touch with a clear plastic shell and a protective plastic wrap that is imprinted to mimic what the screen would look like were the device turned on, inside the box is a Lightning-to-USB cable, a Lightning-to-microUSB adapter, and the wall charger. Notably absent from the packaging in the video are Apple's EarPod earphones, which Apple China lists as coming bundled with the phone.

    They must feel special....

So, is that small adapter so you can use your own USB cable or are there some other uses?

I'm seeing on twitter that the rumors are there will be SEVERE supply constraints of the 5S. Speculation is thats the reason there was no pre-release. It will be madness on Friday.

It looks real but probably not the original unboxing as noted by the missing earbuds, however you can see that the packaging clearly has an indentation where the earbuds would fit. They probably took everything out and used it before they decided to do an unboxing video. They put the package back together, but those earbuds are really difficult to fit back in the case, so they just bailed on that. The poor quality of the video, taken in portrait mode, sort of indicates they are not very savvy about this stuff.

Doom and gloom? That's what I'm seeing on twitter from several tech journalists. Apple stores will be madness on Friday. I have the day off so I might just drop by one of them to see what it's like. :)

What if people use an Apple microusb adaptor together with as third party micro usb charger (plenty of them around and plenty of fake ones tooto charge their iPhones... There's a risk of electrocution still perhaps

Hmm... Who was it that said the leaked box shots for the grey 5S simply couldn't be real as they featured a blank black screen background?

Whomever wrote this article needs glasses, the ear pods are in their package on the desk along with the other contents from the box.

I've heard the same rumours, but I can't figure out why this would be the case.  If it's the fingerprint sensor or the A7 chip then they will have huge problems releasing iPads next month.  It seems odd that they would have planned that poorly.  I think the rumours might be just more analysts mis-reading the supply chain.

So, which supplier opened a box before Spple said they could?
  • Reply 19 of 30
1st, why there are so many iPhone 5c on his desk?!! Is he an Apple employee opening up those boxes before selling them to real customers?!!

2nd, would be nice if he had cut his nails, wash them clean a bit ... even better if some female's hand would show off those sexy iPhones!

OK, I'm a bit too much detail oriented ... or freaked perhaps?!! LMAO
