Has anyone installed OS 9 on a new 12" Powerbook? Is there any reason why the 12" Powerbook can't have the option booting into OS 9? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

OS9 will not boot on any new hardware releases such as the 12" PowerBook. Apple is not devoting any more resources to add proper ROM, device drivers, et cetera to get it working on new hardware.

    It's a dead OS.

    Its development has ceased.

Thanks to all. I have not made the jump to OS X. I have a friend who has an iBook which has the option of booting into OS 9. I'm very fond of the 12" iBook. So, when I saw the 12" Powerbook with optional Superdrive, I started to count my pennies. I just can't afford to buy a new computer and all new software at the same time. I have played with OS 10.1.5 and found the "Classic mode" to be less than satisfactory but have no experience with Jaguar. Is the implementation of "Classic" in Jaguar any better than 10.1.5?

    Thanks again.

Get the iBook-800, it's faster than the Powerbook-867 for most tasks and it's hundreds of dollars cheaper. The battery life is also considerably longer and heat dissipation is less.

And it'll run OS 9 natively, no Classic needed. With the hundreds of dollars you spend, you can afford a Firewire DVD-R and a copy of Toast.
