Has anyon considered the possibility of an intel based rack mount?

I mean think about it, all you need for OSX server really is Carbon & Cocoa. If Apple buy out some rack manufacturer and give it a funky case, by linking it to what would become propriety Apple hardware means it can't work on any other PCs, how easy would it be!? There would be basically no work to do beyond porting Aqua across.

The advantage? Think of all the redunant Hardware manufacturers they could choose from!!! How good could these servers be!

Worth a thought anyway!

If a rack server were to be x86-based it wouldn't run Mac OS X. Steve said to the shareholders last month that there were no plans for a x86-based version of Mac OS X. I really don't think it's legal for a CEO to lie that bluntly to shareholders, hence no x86 rack server anytime soon.

There really is no point making one either.

Noone would port their apps to a x86 version of MacOS-X if it ran only on some server.

So the only apps available would be java and Apples own.

If that'd happen, you can be 200% sure that Aqua wouldn't be ported at all. In fact it's already kind of exotic that these rackmounts are most likely going to run an OS with a GUI.

You know, headless applications don't really need the extra slowdown of a GUI that noone needs anyway.

Don't you guys realize that Apple can't even seem to "port" aqua, and OSX in general over to existing Apple hardware!! We need to let this go!

No work except for the tons of work to port Aqua to Intel.

    Intel based Apple rackmounted servers?

If that happen, it probably after the PPC rackmounted server, and then the Sun rackmounted server. In other words, it probably won't happen in 14th May.
