it seems that through iPhoto there is a 48 image limit to export into HomePage.... WHY? i can put images then that from a webbrowser, why should iphoto be any different?
Well, 48 photograph thumbnails, frame images, and complex tabling, not to mention other images, can certainly lead to a slow experience while browsing, especially while using a Mac browser. Since that situation is already bad enough, I can only imagine Apple's reasoning in this is that they don't want it to seem any worse.
Of course, it still kinda sucks that they made that decision for you, but if you can't make your own photo galleries, you'll just have to live with this limitation until Apple changes it. I point you to the iPhoto feedback page.
I'm talking about browsers. Specifically, IE. Though that too, I suppose?it would take a while for most people to upload 48 decent-sized images. But then again, doesn't the .Mac gallery format resize it to 640x480?
Regardless, slow with 4 images? I'm on a G3 and I've had no issues with unacceptable slowdown, except .Mac-based slowdown, which at the time more than likely had something to do with all of the iSync-binging going on...

The Homepage photo resolution limit is 800 x 600. This limit, like the 48 photo limit, is not explained or even listed in the iPhoto help section.
