    You cannot download OS 2.0. Upgrading from OS 1.3 required changing the Newton's ROM, which Apple offered as an upgrade program for some time. You can look for the ROM on eBay - they pop up from time to time.

    This, for the most part, is correct. Unfortunately, there aren't many people that do the upgrade now, and while it's not exactly rocket science, you want to be careful when installing. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    Thanks for the help guys.....i never seen these rom thing on ebay and i now know that i can use 2.0....

    But i still need your help if you have the discs which your newton came with can you put them on a server some where, where i can download them as this 2ed hand one didn't come with any software for me to use with my 7300 as it needs it. the 7300 has os 9.1 which should be fine as it can se my 7300 but it ask for the Newton Connection Utility. You see it come up with an error like this

    "An error has occurred. Is newton connetion active on your Macintosh (-28009)"

    now i have looked every where for this software and what it comes with but no luck....i know someone out there has it PLEASE can i have a copy.

    You'll find the Newton Backup Utility here:

    <a href="ftp://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Newton/For_Mac_OS/Other_Newton_Updates/"; target="_blank">ftp://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Newton/For_Mac_OS/Other_Newton_Updates/</a>;

    And if you search the Newton sites (there are still some active ones) you'll also find downloads for the NCU, although they're not really favoured by Apples, I don't think that Apple goes after them. Really, I don't understand why Apple doesn't just put the downloads somewhere on their FTP, as you can't really use them unless you own a Newton...

    I would think you could get a 2000 or a 2100 for what it may cost you to do this. And they are way superior to the 120.

    Do you think that $13 USD for a 120 newton is good? I do...that's why i got it...and i'm not spending any money on the software as it's old and i'm sure some one has it that could give me a copy as this one didn't come with any discs.

    If i find a 2100 for a good price i will get it too.....but i stil need help finding the disc that the 120 message pad came with the oss 1.3 verson not 2.0

    You might want to try the NCK (Newton Connection Kit) if you're having problems with NCU.

    NCK only works with pre-OS 2.0 Newtons.

    yep. it's a package (.pkg) that you can install directly on your mac with <a href="http://www.panic.com/~stevenf/index.php?node=NewTen"; target="_blank">NewTen</a>. HTH
