Odd...no new iMac commercial?

This seemed like a sure-thing, right?

Jobs usually debuts the new television commercials with new hardware (Cube, PowerBook, iPod, etc.). They showed the usual 10 minutes "feel good" video with Ive gesturing wildly and Schiller giving his stock, canned commentary, along with Seal, Annie Leibovitz and Coppola, etc.

But no standalone broadcast TV spot?

How weird!

That new iMac is BEGGING for a cool TV commercial!

Again (don't get me started...), HOW are the "regular joe" (non-Mac geek) crowd going to even KNOW about this iMac?

My mom and sister and all their friends and so forth have no idea what happened today.

If they don't see a commercial for it on TV, they won't know it exists because they're not the kind of people who follow this stuff as rabidly as all of us do. As a matter of fact, I'm betting most average "consumers" don't know what happened today in Frisco, and I'd even venture to say that someone, somewhere actually plopped down $1299 or so on an Indigo or Snow CRT iMac today!

Apple? Commercial? SOME sort of marketing blitz behind this? Or are you just going to rely on word-of-mouth and instore evangelizing and water carrying by us, the faithful?

    I noticed that too. Odd

But who here thinks that the start of the iMac video with the iMac bobbin its head to the song was friggin cool beyond all imagining. And would make a really good add? That vid clinched it for me.

It bopping along to music in parts throughout is really cool too.

It's like the little guy is alive. Very cool.

I'm also really wondering what the heck is up with the lack of a commercial. I thought for sure I'd see it on TV sometime today. Odd.

That little video is GREAT, isn't it? Seeing what I did of the iMac was cool enough, but to see it actually on a desk with someone sitting at it... god, I just think that damn thing is SO cool.

I've watched that thing a dozen times today. Just seeing how it looks on that desk when Annie Leibovitz is sitting there looking at it, makes me want it so badly.

Simply the most amazing computer design on the market right now.

Too bad NO ONE IS SEEING IT, APPLE!!!

I was thinking about the lack of a commercial but then I realized that, because none of them are shipping (two out of three aren't going to ship THIS MONTH) that it would make no sense to make a commercial, at least not yet. I'm sure it's coming though.

I think the thing that shocked me the most was when it was sitting on the artists old wooden table...It looked just as beatuiful as when sitting on the white studio backdrop as the black expo display box as sitting in the executive office as the recording studio. That is wher eit leaves the old iMac WAY behind, the fruity iMac could easily clash with home decor and pretty much screamed out CHEAP even though it was a mac and probably cost far more than a comparable PC...

That is where this new computer breaks the mold. As for the not liking the design? I'll put a garuntee on the fact htat it's just growing pains... I mean kinda like when a friend gets a completely diffrent haircut and it takes a while to get used to it....

    From the <a href="http://www.timecanada.com/printstory.adp?storyid=1"; target="_blank">TIME article:

[quote] Pixar creative chief John Lasseter has also made the first new iMac ad.

It'll probably turn up once the new iMacs are actually shipping.

    Edit: removed superfluous return

They may still be putting finishing touches on it, too. Hell, if John Lasseter is making it, who knows how complex and interesting it could be.

Especially if they integrated CG with live action?

yea I hope that the commercial is cool, and even if it sucks at least what apple needs to do is get it played ALOT and in ALOT of places

you think ANY computer ad out there right now is even ANY good? I don't really like any of them any of apples ads beat them out, so what do you get when you have an informative artistic stylish apple branded ad, played hourly or half hourly on dozens of networks for weeks?

you get MILLIONS more people that actually KNOW what your product is and what it does, instantly a percentage of those people will go for it, another percentage may not buy one but they may help spread the word then there is the percentage that won't touch it and will probably laugh, but the thing is, there will ALWAYs be a percent of people that will see it and go "DAAAMN" and then order one, that easily....its like that with everything, there are always people that will buy, you just have to let them know that its there, and that isn't hard, just gotta have ALOT of ad time, I could easily imagine apple doubling their marketshare if they started running ads on LOADS of networks as frequently as the Pentium 4 ads.

I totally agree, this is (will be) the tv ad. And if you don't know, now you know. Let's praise the new iMac, Hallelujah !

Since only one model is available I suspect they're waiting until late February or even March before running any kind of major ad campaign. No sense advertising product that won't be available.

I did read that Pixar has produced the first commercials for the new iMac.

Does anyone how how that song is called that is played in the beginning of the new iMac promo video ?

Already found out that the end song is Take My Heart Away by Johnny Clegg & Savuka.

Apple's marketing is amazing, but not enough people see it, They really need to flood the market with the images of the products and the logo. Just look at a company like Bose, everybody thinks a Bose sound system is the greatest way to listen to music and movies. When if fact the systems sound like shit. It's just that everybody sees the ads and doesn't really know what else is out there. They are a box trading company. Apple has so much more to deliver to people, if only they knew.....

I thought the beginning of the iMac video was part of the new commercial. The song was "Take me higher" or something from Kirk Franklin-he's a church guy.

I thought that was the new spot.

I wish Apple would stop making self-congratulatory ads and tv commericals and start taking the gloves off and showing what the iMac can do. Run a spot showing iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto (not some guy dancing with his iPod) with real people (of all ages) using and enjoying the computer. SELL, SELL, SELL! And "THINK DIFFERENT" needs to be retired. Instead of for the "rest of us" Apple should tout "for all of us". That's my opinon anyways.
