New video purports to show 3D mockup of 'iPhone 6' with larger, 4.7" display

A new video released Thursday provides a close-up view at what appears to be a 3D printed mockup of Apple's new, larger iPhone, likely based on recent rumors and leaked schematics of the next-generation device.

The model sports rounded edges, a relocated power button, and a rounded flash, matching up with what many believe the device will look like. The video was first published by French blog nowhereelse.fr.

According to the publication, the model also lines up with previous rumors of a slim, 6-millimeter cross-section. That was said to be so svelte that Apple was having trouble manufacturing batteries to fit within its profile.

A similar mockup came to light earlier this week, featuring a slightly protruding rear camera, which this new video does not show. Some believe that Apple initially planned to ship the so-called iPhone 6 with such a design but later altered the internal layout to allow for a flat rear casing.

The iPhone is widely expected to be revamped this fall, likely with two new models -- one with a 4.7-inch display and a second, 5.5-inch "phablet" variant.

Aren't 3D printers just amazing! Ive and Co. can print out models like this in-house and test them out in the hand, against the ear, pick them up put them down, pocket them and then make a decision. (Apple has had 3D printers in their design studio for several years now)

I know my sister doesn't like the shape/hard edges of the 4, 4s, 5 and 5s, and actually chose to buy a second hand 3Gs on eBay instead when her old 3Gs broke. She'd love this phone.

Yeah, it certainly does make one think the 5.5" iPhone is a load of bull. Getting rid of the 3.5" iPhone and providing a 4.7" model as the alternate iPhone screen size to the 4" model seems to work well I think.

I really hope they bring back the rounded back profile. I loved the design of the 3GS the best because it was so much easier to pick up. The 4/4S weren't so bad since it had the stainless steel band around it, but the 5 and 5S have been terrible. The back is so flat and the edges are so thin, it makes it difficult to pick up off the table without dropping it because of a weak grip. Unless you have a case on it, of course, or slide it to the edge of the table then grab it that way, which I would never do without a case on it.

As for the size, for me, the 4.7" would suit me just fine. I'm not a fan at all of the phablet. Anything bigger than 5" I think is too much for a phone. That's when it becomes a portability issue. That's what my iPad Air is for.

No way this is genuine. All the design cues are wrong. Especially the lower and upper sides have always been of equal height on iphones and ipads. Not the case here. Plastic backside not in a single piece ? Please dont kid me. A good 3D prinded spoof, but a spoof.

And this shows clearly that even 4.7" is too big for one hand use by an average woman or teen (which are a bigger market than the canadian tree fellers with huge paws). They may do it noneless but the rumors of even bigger stuff are utterly wrong

I still think the new phone will look like the iPad/iPod touch. Only questions are the camera and what they do with the antennas.

    Thant's good to know, thanks.

OT, but why do you post in these fonts? Aren't the default size and colour not to your liking?

    Nope.

Why don't you call the guy who made this VIDEO MOCKUP and tell him to redo it in aluminum so as to give you the correct impression.

If this is true, & this next iteration of $AAPL handset looks amazing none the less, true it's just a mock up but still, that's crazy, I'd be worried about durability tho, the thinliness of the device looks like I could snap in half lol

It's a cool look. I remember when I first put my hands on the 2012 iPod touch- I was floored with the engineering. I was impressed with the iPhone 5, but the touch was out of this world. Funny it's exactly the same as the touch- even down to the speaker location and size. My opinion- the touch is the best designed idevice yet, although the air is a close second.

Still not sure how I'll feel with a protruding camera- if this is in fact the design. I'd personally like it a hair thicker- not even for battery space, because it has plenty as it, but for comfort. The rounded corners will help with that though.

I think you'll (we'll) find that the extra slimness adds to the comfort of holding the device as the width increases to fill out your hand more.  As it gets wider, your hand must stretch further to wrap around it....and the thicker it is, the harder it is to achieve a comfortable grip. The slimmer it is, the easier it fits inside the creases/bends of your finger joints, thus giving you that much better of a grip.

    This.

Those other mock ups looked ridiculously impractical compared to this.
