Tim Cook visits veterans and doctors at Palo Alto VA hospital, staff using iPads
Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday tweeted out a photo and brief message highlighting a recent visit to the Veterans Affairs hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., saying he was happy to meet with doctors who now use iPads to treat patients.
In the photo, Cook is seen talking with a hospital staff member who appears to be using an iPad Air with special protective cover. The Apple chief visited the VA Palo Alto Health Care System today with California Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo.
Since its debut, the iPad has been making inroads into the medical sector as doctors turn to the tablet for everything from reference material to chart management. A big part of the iPad's success in the field comes thanks to a healthy selection of industry apps.
The iPad has curried favor as far back as 2011, when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration green lit an app radiologists can use to view images and make mobile diagnoses.
Cook's visit comes one day after newly appointed Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald surveyed the Palo Alto VA HCS as part of a nationwide tour of VA hospitals. As reported by the San Jose Mercury News, McDonald lauded the facility as being one of the best in the system.
"Palo Alto VA medical center is one of the crown jewels of our healthcare system," he said. "Every day, great care is delivered to veterans in every healthcare facility nationwide, but it's especially evident here in Palo Alto and that's why I'm here today."
America's Veterans Affairs healthcare system was thrust into the spotlight after it was reported that veterans were receiving subpar care, some of whom supposedly died waiting for treatment. The revelations led to an investigation that found a system fraught with trouble. Falsification of records meant to cover up excessive wait times, incorrect diagnoses and other scandals came to light, ultimately forcing former VA head Eric Shinseki to tender his resignation.
There has been no word as to the VA's official stance on iPads and it is unknown if other facilities in the system use the tablet.

If I ever went to any doctor and saw them walking into the room clutching an Android tablet, I would obviously immediately leave and switch doctors.
If a doctor and/or health institution skimps out on tablets, what else do they skimp out on? Stuff like medicine or treatment given to patients?
Especially when it is so well known that iOS totally dominates the health industry, I would be extremely suspicious of anybody using an Android tablet. Why would they make that decision? It would either have to be total ignorance and gross incompetence or just total cheapness. Either way, both would be adequate reasons to dump that doctor and/or health institution.

Why not also refuse to get treatment from any hospital that does not exclusively use Apple computers? Was that why Steve Jobs took so long to get treatment? If so, he should be admired for standing by his convictions even in the face of death.

And refuse to put your money in any bank that does not exclusively use Apple computers?

If for example others wish to get treated in a hospital that was exclusively using Android, then who am I to stop them? It's their health and their life, and they are free to do as they wish.
That said, using Chromebooks in place of Windows desktops is pretty smart in certain circumstances. It is why we are seeing a significant increase in Chromebook sales. But I highly doubt the doctors of this healthcare provider are walking around with Chromebooks, going from patient to patient.
First off, you pretty much buy into Apple propaganda hook line and sinker, so calling anything pro-Google, "propaganda" is living the hypocrisy dream.

Anybody who posts or reads this forum a lot knows that I am often very critical of Apple from time to time, and I have no problems with bashing Apple when I feel the need to. It wouldn't take somebody very long to find many, many posts written by me where I have been highly critical of Apple.
As for Chromebooks VS Windows, that doesn't really interest me at all, since I use neither system and I have no dog in that race. Let them both fight it out, that sounds good to me.
