3rd Party Keyboards not working properly

Has anyone else had an issue with 3rd party keyboards (Swype, Swiftkey) not working in all apps?  Works in Facebook, twitter, Safari, and other apps.  Does not work in messages, Mail, Calendar, Contacts? Apple now allows 3rd Party keyboards but many of their apps don't seem to support it.  Anything special to do to get this working?
