Got a $1499 iMac for $500! ;-)

Way back in 1998 we bought a 233 iMac on sale for $1,000 from Mega Mart, a local store in Omaha. We were also smart enough to purchase a 4-year service contract since Apple's warranty expired after only 1 year.

It was a great machine, but it was a little over the hill. Last week, the logic board just blew out. We brought it in to be serviced at MegaMart, and it started smoking when they tried to test the board! Apparently everything was toasted and it wouldn't be economical for them to fix it.

So they decided to give us a check for the original purchase price of $1,000! We could either take home a 500 mhz G3 imac, or apply the $1,000 toward the purchase of a new G4 imac. We just went ahead and ordered the $1499 one with the CD-RW/DVD drive. Of course, we'll also get the 4-year service contract again. Here's hoping they blow this one up in 2006!

Since the original imac was in my sister's room, she'll get this one. I'm gonna stick to using the P4 Gateway in our living room, but it's still a good deal.

Hey, that's where I got mine too!!

Though we paid the actual price ($1299) since we got it within days of it becoming available. And we got that warranty too, but I forgot what happened to it. Oh please oh please something go wrong before the 4 years is up in August/September

So you live in Nebraska, eh? Omaha?
