Excel on imac

I am contemplating purchasing an imac. After the December updates on my Windows computer, excel does not work properly. VBA and form controls are disabled.

Has the same happened on an imac with the latest updates?

A simple test would be to open excel, navigate to the developer tab, goto the insert field and then drag an active x command button onto the worksheet. If there is no error message then it is working fine.

Can anyone help by doing this simple test on their imac and letting me know what happens?
