Need help finding a nice pair of headphones.

I'm looking for a nice pair of headphones at a reasonable price. I guess anywhere between $20-$100. Also I'd like something that's comfortable. I was looking at the Grado SR60 and SR80 and heard that the they have great sound quality but are uncomfortable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think if I was gonna spend something toward the high end of your price range I might be interested testing the sound on the $97.00 noise cancelling Sony headphones on this page.

I don't know a whole lot about heaphones. Though I've always wanted a GOOD pair of Grados.

Here are a couple of links I found my doing a quick search in google for "headphone reviews". At a quick glance they look to contain identical info. Hey, you said "any help is appreciated".

I would definately recommend the <a href="http://www.koss.com"; target="_blank">]Koss PortaPro</a> headphones. They are ugly as hell, but sound very nice indeed and are comfortable to boot.

Those look pretty good and I like the price on them but I'd be using the headphones for home use. Are these still good for using them at home or would it be better to buy non portable cans?

If you can't find a mountain of recommendation here then Lord help you.

Personally I'm going to be buying the Denon AHD-750's but they are more popular for DJ's as their bass and output is phenomenal.

Grado's probably means you want a nice accurate Midrange which means you'll be up against various Sennheiser models like the 590.

Also check out the Phillips 890 is size isn't important. They look really comfy.

I've got the Grado SR80's and I like them a lot. They aren't that uncomfortable to wear... After long periods of extended use (say 3-4 hours) you need a break, but I think that goes for any headphone.

The sound is great! I have some smaller earbuds that I use on a daily basis (with my iBook) but when I pull out the SR80's the sound difference is amazing.

They are open-air, so expect sound leakage. In other words I wouldn't suggest using them in a library, classroom.... you get the picture.

Check out <a href="http://headroom.headphone.com"; target="_blank">http://headroom.headphone.com</a>; for a good review page...

    Hope this helps

I bought a "nice" pair a couple years ago, still treating me well. I ended up with a Sony pair, who knows if they make them anymore I doubt it, but. What I did was goto Circut City and a couple other places and tried them on. The Sony's i ended up with were self adjusting, and you could bearly feel you were wearing, yet didnt want to fall off if you moved around a bit, which you could thanks to the 3meter cord.

Ok, I checked out sony's site and I figured these to be the most equvilent to the ones i own. <a href="http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/home/accessories/cdseriesheadphones/mdr-cd580.shtml"; target="_blank">MDR-CD580</a>

Again what struck me first was comfort, but also the sound quality is great. They can be extremely loud without distorting (too loud if you ask me).

But I Think comfort should be your first priority, cuz when i was shopping they all sounded pretty good, obviously some were better than others. But They all felt very different on my head. Some instantly gave me a headache, which who cares how good they sound I wouldnt wear them more than a couple minutes. All the reviews in the world wont compair to trying them on.

I also have the Grado SR80s and I've never heard a pair of headphones that sound as good as these.

SR-80's felt like 2 pieces of sandpaper scrubbing my face. I returned them.

Sennheiser and Beyrdynamic make the most comfortable ones, but there are many models so check out the reviews.

Thanks for all your replies. Comfort is very important to me as I leave my headphones on for hours. Right now I'm leaning towards those Sony MDR-CD580s because they look very comfortable and supposedly sound great.

Sandpaper on your ears!? No thanx I wouln't want to have "raw" ears. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

You get used to them after two weeks. If you aren't using an amp, the SR-80s will be no better than the SR-60s...probably worse.
