iMac G3 (Summer 2000), connect to internet through windows 7 bridge?
Hey apple insider, I've got an iMac G3, summer of 2000 model, running mac os 9.2.2, and I can't hook it up to the router directly, so I setup a bridge on my windows 7 machine connecting my wireless connection and lan port so my mac can mooch off of my windows 7 wireless connection. I tried running the internet setup assistant on my iMac and followed my dns and such, and it didnt work. Is there a special method to utilizing a windows 7 bridge to give mac os 9.2.2 internet? thanks

I think that machine was made before Apple started using autosensing ethernet ports, and assuming your windows PC doesn't have one either (very possible), you may be using the wrong type of cable. If you are connecting the cable directly from the PC to the iMac you need to use a crossover cable, not a regular ethernet cable. They look identical, but the crossover cable has some pins swapped around to enable direct connections without a hub. You can order an adapter that allows any ethernet cable to be used as a crossover for under $6 on Amazon, or you can order a dedicated crossover cable for around the same price.
