Cube revival or updates soon?

Will any third party folk step in and push the Cube into the next generation? Will Apple go with a Cube-Like device, or is the gumdrop the form factor of the future?

Well DaveGee, thanks for posting. I am afraid you may be right, but seems a bit sad. I resisted El Capitain and finally Steve delivered what I wanted iwht an option for a huge flat display; then they decided to take it away. iMac G4 is lovely, but it is still an integrated unit, not components.

Of course, the G4 PowerBook may now be considered a potential desktop with ADC, but...

If they brought out the Cube again?

    I'd probably buy it.

The form factor was state of the art...couldn't they just give it another go with a better price and more appropriate targeting?

Stick some more ports on it? It was cancelled for lack of expandability and poor price...and expensive to add monitor. Look at the price of the iMac. You can't add a graphics card to it?

Still, the LCD imac has more ports, a monitor and superdrive for much the price of the mid to top end cube!

    I'm looking for a 2nd hand 500mhz G4/Geforce Mx2 version at right price...

I did once dream of owning a Cube...

I just got 2 cubes to replace my DP800...they are by far the best macs I have ever owned bar none. ( I have used Macs for 10 years+)...

I will upgrade them for as long as possible to keep them competetive..they are that good...

If Apple released a new cube, I would have no hesitation in buying one, and also recommending one...

    I was after a refurb from Apple, and emailed them last week, and got a strange(ish) reply...that began;

"we don't currently sell cubes..." and they then told me the name of a 3rd party reseller who would have a G4 cube. I deleted the email with the persons name etc but only after, did I realise that I should have kept it...

Of course an Apple store employee won't have any info on hardware releases...but it seemed a strange way to phrase the reply....

    I live in hope...

I think the Cube could have been damn near perfect *if* the ports were on the BACK side instead of underneath it.

Having to turn it over to plug/unplug things is an interesting experience. The Cube is deceptively heavy for its size and its top heavy since it "floats" above the desk in the polycarb shell.

There is also the problem with graphics cards not quite fitting inside, the heat produced by nVidia chips (which are huge compared to ATi) which is what Apple is focusing on and the initial steep price which didn't include at least a 15" LCD by default.

You know you they can make a 15" LCD iMac for $1400-1900 now so why not have a go at the Cube?

Oh wait, they sell an all-in-one 15" LCD iMac for $1400-1900 and it doesn't have that giant power supply brick, it doesn't use USB speakers and you don't have to flip it over to plug things in and the display is infinitely adjustable.

There's your answer. Yes the Cube was "kool" but the iMac solves most of the Cube's flaws even if you don't like the LCD iMac's styling.

Now that's one damn nice Cube.

    Check it out Cube fans.

    Apple want a sub-£500 computer?

    They'd sell loads of 'switchers'.

A Cube with Bluetooth tech to cut down on the wires would be the bee's knees.
