A week after updating its TestFlight app evaluation tool with support for iOS 9, Apple on Thursday added a backend feature that allows developers to seed beta builds of their apps to users outside of their dev teams.

Prior to today's TestFlight upgrade, developers prepping apps for Apple's upcoming iOS 9 release were limited to sharing beta builds with verified team members. With the new capability, devs can seed software to anyone running iOS 9 beta on their device.

Earlier this month TestFlight gained support for iOS 9-specific features like app thinning, which keeps app install packages to a minimum, and support for watchOS 2. In addition, the update introduced per-app update notifications alongside bug fixes and performance improvements.

Apple is expected to release iOS 9 and watchOS 2 next month as part of the company's annual iPhone refresh cycle.
