My First Visit to the Apple Store
I live in KC MO. There were rumors of an Apple Store opening here, but it sounds like it will be a while longer until it becomes a reality. I decided to go visit the Apple Store in Minneapolis last weekend. Here are my comments:
POS: Yes, I snooped around the cash register and credit card swiper. The "splash screen" on the LCD of the swiper shows a blue "Aquafied" Apple logo and in the bottom right corner it says: "ver 3.2". I lifted the swiper and turned it over. Its made by a company called POS (http://www.pos.com).
The store was very busy. I say quite a few Macs on dollies, ready to be loaded into cars.
The "Genuis Bar" is over-rated. I asked a genuis to give me a basic overview of Darwin- specifically what the BSD part of Darwin and the Mach micro kernal do in regards to each other. I didn't get much of an answer. No, it wasn't a trick question, I really wanted to get a better understanding of the BSD components VS the Mach components in Darwin.
The store was very clean (except black scuff marks on the bottoms of doors).
XServer? Not a single demo to be seen. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of one in action. No such luck...
The "theatre" in the back was running a loop of the new "Switch" TV ads.
Overall I had a great time. I hope an Apple Store shows up closer to me (KC) soon! Chicago, Minneapolis, Texas and Denver are a tad too far to drive!
