What is the best (freeware preferred) internet software that stops the annoying pop up advertising windows? I have OS 9.2, IE and fast DSL connection yet the pop up windows are making my net experience feel like being back to 56K dial up!

I haven't found one for mac yet but the best one I have used for windows is called Pop-up Stopper from panic ware. They do not have a mac version last time I checked. If someone knows of a mac version please let us know ( I am using OS X ).

Get OmniWeb. It has a built in preference to not allow new windows unless you click a link. It will import all of your favorites from IE perferctly, and the new version rocks.

    Get it <a href="http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/"; target="_blank">here.</a>

Try Privoxy (the new name for the Internet Junkbuster). It's at <a href="http://www.privoxy.org."; target="_blank">http://www.privoxy.org.</a>; Send me a private msg if you want my config file (it works better than stock). Also, Mozilla is excellent for stopping popups and managing cookies, as others have noted.

From what I have heard iCab also blocks the pop-ups and is available for OS 9. I haven't had the oppurtunity to use it in OS X yet.
