Why no MWNY hype from Apple?

Have they learned their lesson from last year?

Do they not have anything big to reveal?

Or is it just still too soon to begin hyping this show?

Wasn't last year's "Beyond rumors" hype happen about 10 days prior to the show?

That was MWSF with the internet hype

As for why Apple isn't doing anything its because their products currently suck ass and they don't want a lot of exposure for a show that won't solve that

They'd have to deny themselves passes to the Expo if they did.

    ehehe

I'd wait until the 10th (a week before) for any expo-related hype to start... I havent even seen any billboards yet either... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

anyways, the monday before MWSF is when they put up the infamous slogans...

I guess a lot of people got really fed up with the hype with MWSF and they find it silly to do it again

    3 possibilities:

    1.

They've got nothing but software. While the software may be tres cool, the only buzz that's likely to create at this point is a giant collective groan.

    2.

They've got decent updates, but you'll only get them at insane price hikes. Queue another collective groan from all but the deepest of pockets. This will produce a a quick spike in sales (as the deep pockets dig down) but will wear off quickly as the rest of us wait for a price drop to more reasonable levels. Perhaps just enough to line up a price drop + minimal update at MWSF? Once again Apple gets caught going the wrong way on price.

    3.

They know what's coming down the line and it ain't pretty. G5 might only be a beefier .13u G4. Plenty fast, but late and by the time it comes Intel will supply .09u chips that trounce it in every concievable way (real, and even more so percieved.) They mioght be that far ahead of the game in 2 years, even AMD will go looking for shelter. Anybody notice the absence of fake-offs? Steve is in big trouble if he can't even intro a chip that can win an RDF assisted fake-off for a few months before it's eclipsed.

If nothing happens before MW, and the intros are lackluster and the prices typically on the wrong side of too-high, then Apple has BIG problems on it's hands. Some of the spin has already (possibly) begun: blame rumors. Irresponsible journalism is really harming mac sales as many people defer purchases based on false claims about current model performance and future company directions. We know that's bullshiat, but don't put it past a desperate company. As of yet Apple is far from desperate, but the next 2 MacWorlds could turn the picture around for the worst VERY quickly. Apple's or PPC's/AIM's, (blame whoever you like) current rate of hardware development is tantamount to sitting still, when you consider how far ahead Intel will push

CPU and FSB tech in the next two years.

It's either going to get a lot nicer (really good G4's and PPC Mobo's at a good price, followed by even better G5's) with machines that can win timed test face-offs convincingly in photoshop, premier, 3-d etc. OR, it's going to get really bad in that whatever Apple debuts, they won't be able to offer a justifiable price and Intel will push so far ahead that Steve can't even bake-off the things when their first released, let alone after a few months of steady (if incremental) Intel updates + price cuts.

Everybody move to the edge of your seats now.

    Cute.

I don't think there are any major new products to announce. They're not going to do backflips about faster Powermacs, upped specs for iMacs, or a Jaguar preview we're aware of. We'll see improved products and some additional morsels about Apple.com/Mac.com and Jaguar.

    ...And some switching statistics.
