Apple Store brings same-day Postmates deliveries to Manhattan

Apple on Tuesday updated its online store to allow same-day deliveries in Manhattan, offered through its partner for the service, Postmates.

The option is available for many products at the store, including some Mac models. Choosing it costs $19 and normally guarantees a delivery within two hours. Some orders can take longer, but should still arrive a few hours later.

Same-day service is not yet available in other New York City boroughs, such as Brooklyn or Queens. In fact the option is still missing in some parts of Manhattan, like Roosevelt Island.

Apple first began offering same-day shipping in May. Apart from Manhattan it so far appears to be limited to the San Francisco Bay Area, even though Postmates operates in other U.S. cities like Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis.

A June report suggested that Apple was considering partnering with Uber instead. It's not clear why the deal fell through, but another retailer -- Gilt Groupe -- complained that Uber was unable to insure expensive products.

I only heard about this recently from Om Malik. "Postmates" is not a very good name for this type of delivery service. Sounds very generic.
