iPod touch sync issue

Hi,

 

My iPod touch 5th generation is not recognized by iTunes 10.7 on a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8. 

 

Any ideas on how to get this sorted out?

 

My machine is older and was previously running iTunes 9.1.1 with an old iPod classic, but that thing pooped out and I had to upgrade.
