Laptop keyboard, typo, typing speed

Anyone here also has the same problem as mine?

I always find that I type a lot slower and have a lot more typos when typing with the laptop's built-in keyboard. Regarding it's a PowerBook, iBook, Sony VAIO or any other brands.

But when I am back to use the regular desktop keyboard I type a lot faster and have far fewer typo.

Anyone agree with me?

I think I type just as fast, if not faster on my iBook's keyboard compared to my Pro Keyboard or any PC keyboard. I usually have a few more typos though on my iBook's keyboard.

It's what you're used to I guess. My Pismo is my main computer, and I can type fast and well on it's keyboard. (It also helps that it's in a Dvorak layout)

It depends on the keyboard. I have a Pismo and recently tried an iBook, but I don't like their keyboards. It feels like they're a little bit too small or something like that. On my desktop Mac, I use an old Extended Keyboard II. At work, I use an IBM Thinkpad. I can easily switch between those two keyboards without problems. I even prefer the IBM keyboard to many other desktop keyboards. It's IMO much better than the Apple notebook keyboards. The layout is not as "clean" (rectangular) as the Mac notebooks, but it has full blown cursor keys, you can use the page-up / page-down function without modifiers etc.

The keyboard that i prefer, is the keyboard of my G3 333. The keyboard of my G5 533 is only average. The keyboard of the my powerbook G 3 333 is a little two sensitive to my taste, but it's just a question of practice.

    Shhh.

Nothing to see here. Move along. These are not the G5s you are looking for.

[Goddam Powerdoc. You have spoiled the plot. Now they know about the G5s in US we wont have enough for us. I haven´t even recieved my G5 1.2Ghz Powerbook yet ]

The main problem is that the keyboard is flat and the keys wider, if you hit one key a little off you are more likely to strike another key as well.

I use a MacAlly iKey4, typing on it is similar to typing on an ADB II only quieter. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I've been thinking of trying the Dvorak layout - how long did it take you guys to get used to it?

I don't know... I type pretty damn fast as it is, but might try it just for the hell of it.

What exactly is the Dvorak layout?

A keyboard layout based on ergonomics and fast typing, the keys you use most are closer together, etc. Not like QWERTY which was made so the keys wouldn't get jammed back when people still used typewriters.

What is cool is you can really make some gooble-de-glop typing by switching to Dvorak, like this: C am nckcbi cb yd. odaer, ru yd. ip..b epairbw ,dro. ,ce.[op.ae .ir ,cnn rb. eaf pgn. go annv!
