Mail question: how to get rid of All Mail folder in Gmail account?

Hi. This is as much a Gmail question as a Mail question, but I've been trying to find an answer online with no luck.

 In Mail, is there a way to disable the All Mail folder that Gmail generates?

 The problem with that folder is that it seems to keep some emails after I've deleted those emails from my regular folders. And when I do a search, the old emails in All Mail are showing up.

 I tried to see if there was a setting in Gmail but I didn't see one.
