Fifth beta of OS X 10.11.4 update launches for public and developers

Apple on Tuesday issued a fifth beta of the upcoming OS X 10.11.4 update, seeding separate versions for public testers and developers.

The new beta is listed as build 15E56a, and for developers is available through OS X's Software Update feature, or else Apple's developer portal. Public testers must be registered with the Apple Beta Software Program, and should be able to download it through that website, or Software Update if they're already beta participants.

The fourth 10.11.4 beta was released about a week ago.

Once it's finished, 10.11.4 will enable viewing and sharing Live Photos in Messages, and creating individually secured items in Notes. It should also be easier to import content from third-party notetaking apps.

The update is otherwise expected to concentrate on bugfixes. Testing notes for the latest beta mention iBooks, Messages, Notes, and Photos, and Apple is also known to be solving a Safari glitch with shortened Twitter links.

Regarding developers and their apps, why the long lag between an OS X update release and developers releasing compatible updates of their apps? It seems like the big development houses are the worst. We always see an uptick of users reporting one or more of their apps broken with the latest update. I expect El Capitan 10.11.4 will be no different and updated apps are often weeks away from the OS X release date. Why so many users saying they are stuck on such-and-such a version of OS X because the developer hasn’t fixed their app?
