I know I'm gonna be yelled at for even posting this, but check it out nonetheless:

French Mac news site <a href="http://macplus.org/magplus/article.php?id_article=1602"; target="_blank">Macplus</a> is reporting some tipster says the G5 will indeed debut at MWNY, but only on the high-end machine, at 1.6GHz (0,13micron).

Obviously, take it FWIW. An interesting solution nonetheless.

Just for using the word Jagwire I have send the G5 at least one year out in the future.

And BTW: It won´t be the G5 everybody is expecting. In late summer we will all recieve dissapointing news followed by some optimism a couple of month later from an semi-expected place building up to relief next summer. It is as cryptic as I can be.

SYN you forget to add that the writer of that rumor said he did not believe it himself.

Why be cryptic, just say what you mean:

I see a tall dark man in your future (quick cross my hand with silver I may be able to see more...)

I don't know... That opening line has me thinking otherwise: "Attention, this dispatch is to be taken with tweezers." <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" />

Checked with a French guy at work. Apparently, their "grain of salt" means something else, and taking things with a pair of tweezers is like being careful.

    Maybe powerdoc and confirm this.

Personally, my favorite "caution" expression is "wrap a condom over that sucker-- you don't know where it's been!", but sadly it just hasn't caught on as well as that salt thing.

That's because you can increase the grain of salt to a ton of salt to emphasize, while you can increase a condom by much, after about 5 it gets unlikely you could possibly do it

Why be cryptic? You're among friends.

There aren't any Apple Spies in here are there?

Silence, except for the sound of a dripping faucet in the men's room

    See, you're safe.

I'll eat my hat if there is a G5 at MacWorld/NYC... then shortly after I finish digesting it, I'll slap my credit card down and buy said machine.

I'll suck my own dick if there is a G5 at MWNY! Then when I'm done swallowing, I'll go to the nearest Apple retailer and STEAL at least one G5 for my own personal gloating. I won't use it, I'll just look at it and maybe masturbate to it a few times each day.

Let's put my French to work. I knew it would be good for something. Never trust altavista when you can get a polyglot to do it for you

Note, this update is to be taken with a grain of salt. I was contacted this afternooon, by a person that I cannot name for obvious logistical reasons, and whom I do not believe. And why don't I believe him, you ask? Because this person told me of the presence of the highly anticiapted G5 processor in the high end of the new line of G4s that will be presented by Steve Jobs in New York at Macworld. The G4 line will be updated with three machines: fast, faster and extremely fast. It's this last configuration that will be donned with the precious G5 processor which is fabbed at 0.13 microns! The clock speed of this machine will be limitied to 1.6ghz so as to be able to make many of these machines without creating a shortage. As a passionant macuser I felt obligated to share with you this information with is unverifiable and probably wont be until Steve Jobs' speech in July.<hr></blockquote>

I don't know why everybody expects a Turbo G4 instead of G5. G3 was released in 1997 and G4 was released in 1999. There has been more than enough time to bring the G5 into the picture. G4 has received a 7 pipelines enhancements with full speed L2, plus all new L3 cache. Apollo has been released and SOI has been added. I believe the G4 roadmap was fully implemented, only slight increment improvements will be coming in the future. As for the G5, I don't see why not. Motorola has Hip7 for over a year and G5 will be utilizing .13 process. Judging from Pro sales figure, Apple needs a new Tower.

This is what I see happening.

The new iMacs will get a speed bump, like 800, 933 and 1ghz and maybe a 17 inch screen option or

    a better graphics chip.

PowerMacs will also get a speed bump, 1ghz, 1.4ghz and dp 1.4ghz g4's with a dose of DDR memory for them all.

The g5's may show up but i really don't think they will for at least another 3 to 6 months.
