Software for compromizing images

Hi there!

I've got a small question that I'm hoping to get your help to solve. I've recently found myself updating my Resume for possibly looking for a new job. Anyways, I took a new picture that I want to attach to the Resume. Anyways, the picture was taken with a friends camera, and the file is quite heavy. I'd like to either scale it down, or compress the filesize somehow. I currently have no software to do so.

I've found some services doing this online, but I don't want to upload my picture to a shady looking website. That's why I'm asking here, anyone got a tip for a good program?

If you use OSX, you can simply use Preview which is included -> Tools -> Adjust Size.

While researching the topic a bit further yesterday after work, I came across this guide which told me about a program called ImageOptim. But after your answer it seems like an unnecessary install since OSX has that feature build in. Thank you so much!
