Hi all, just wanted to let you all know I spent yesterday evening driving to albany (5.5hr round trip) to visit the apple store at Crossgates(the retail stores are REALLY great). I left with the new dual gig powermac and the beautiful 22" apple LCD (and a much higher debt ratio). I love the mac! Thank you everyone for answering the few questions I posted. You will probably see a few more posts in the genius bar as I get used to the mac. Goodbye PC and microsoft...I hope to never use you again!

you have now joined a brotherhood of apple users. Your membership is renewed every time you visit apple.com....or when you give apple money

but yeah, congrats and great setup!

"Hi, my name is wolfeye155...and I have a problem." "Apple keeps making me open my wallet for new stuff!"

I figure I should just start sending my paychecks to Apple.

    Thanks everyone!

I figured i would post a few impressions now that i've had the machine a few days...

-iTunes3 is the best, I've already started ripping all my music...absolutely great!

-iMovie works well. I linked up my camera with no problems. However, when I went to the apple web site to download the extra feature pack it took a while to figure out the file system. I'm not sure I like it yet, it could be that I've been using windows so long that it takes some getting used to. I still don't quite get why stuff posts to the desktop (like the chimera drive-go away!)

-iPhoto is OK. Not the best, but does the job. I actually like the built in XP photo arangement better.

-Sherlock is the coolest app I've ever gotten with my computer. So useful, love the yellow pages and movie listings...

-Mail and adress book are great. Havent used iChat yet...

    Very happy I switched!

Reports are that iPhoto is undergoing a major upgrade.... and it will be free, of course. Possibly by Paris Expo.

Just curious if you find the computer to be loud. A bunch of us are curious about that, thanks..............

Any more info. or notes about that set up would be much appreciated. I'm thinking about getting the same set up in a few days and would love to know how good it is. Thanks.

I was just going to post about that...

Its seems very loud to me most of the time, and at other times it just purrs. When the superdrive kicks on the thing sometimes rattles my desk (i have it in a built in cubby)

P.S. I was going to post a pic, but I'm not quite sure how to yet...

Also forgot to mention to those PC users who may read here and haven't used a mac...

I was surprised at the quality of everything and the ease of setup. Even the mouse cord was rapped up and tagged by this little plastic thing...its hard to describe but it just screams "Quality". When you open a Dell up its kind of cheap...not so here. The LCD even comes with a little wipe cloth (first LCD so maybe they all do...)

Also, people who complain we need another mouse/keyboard I would disagree. The mouse is very usable. I can basically push and click it with one or two fingers if I want...

I love the keyboard in that i can adjust the brightness and volume and eject the disc (great feature) Kinda miss my scroll wheel (no big deal i just use the up and down keys) and my second button...don't like using cntrl click as much...but hey its no puck mouse. I remember my friend had an old iMac and I used to laugh at his mouse. You couldn't tell which way was up until you moved the mouse and the cursor shot off in some direction.

Anyway, lastly I'm sure the 23" HD display would have been great and even now I can't completely expand iTunes to include the full song titles and all categories, but the 23" resolution is so high it would prevent me from playing the few games I like (such as RTCW) at the native resolution without choking the ati card. And lower resolutions look bad...

I'm convinced that half the reason I love this system so much is the AWESOME display. Those who don't have one need to start saving! Its worth it.

Go to Finder>Preferences (from the menu bar) and deselect or select Hard Disks, Removable Media (what you are asking for), or Connected Servers to appear on the Desktop- personally i don't hav anything appear on the desktop. i like the cleaner look despite using a mac all my life. i also have my mouse's middle button (the scroll wheel/3rd button) set to eject cd's so i don't need them to appear on the desktop anyways... to access you drives quickly hit option-command-c while in the finder, it will bring up your 'computer'. all drives and connected media.

    Well hell...I'm pretty jealous.

When you do get a pic of your setup post it in the thread that's currently setup. We'd love to see it.
