Old iMac and new eMac RAM?

Howdy,

Okay sooo, the general question is: I have a new eMac G4 800mhz (now with just bought 2x 512MB SDRAM PC 133 dimms and an old iMac Slot loading G3 400mhz (with 2x 128MB SDRAM PC 100 dimms)

So now I have an extra 256 MB SDRAM dimm that came with the new eMac?

I would like to see if I can take the original eMac memory (256MB) and insert it into the old iMac extra slot. Is this compability? Will it work? Making a total of 384 MB of RAM for the old iMac. Make sense?

Just wanted to see if some real techy pro could give me a yes or no before I tried it.

Thanks!

If my crusty ol' memory serves, PC133 is backwards compatible and can be used in older slots for PC100. However, you can't use PC100 in a system designed for PC133.

So, yes, I believe what you're trying should work.

Absolutely - you can throw that PC133 RAM from the eMac into the iMac with no problems whatsoever.
