Rumor claims Apple Pay may launch in Italy on Wednesday
After months of hints, Apple Pay may finally launch in Italy this Wednesday, according to a local report citing three sources in the retail and banking industries.
Support should go live sometime on Wednesday morning, MacPost.it claimed. The site noted in fact that Apple Maps is already beginning to identify Italian stores accepting Apple Pay, such as the supermarket chain Esselunga.
Apple's Italian website has promised Apple Pay as "coming soon" since March. Initial financial institutions should include Boon, UniCredit, and Carrefour Bank, using cards from Visa and MasterCard.
Recently the company accidentally posted an image thumbnail on its website identifying Italy as a supported region.
Apple Pay is currently accepted in 15 markets, the most recent country to join being Taiwan. Germany has been rumored, but talks with banks are said to be in a rough state because of the fees Apple wants to claim from each transaction.
