Apple opens summer Apple Camp registrations, sessions start in July
Apple on Tuesday opened up registrations for this year's free summer Apple Camps, which will teach kids 8 to 12 various creative and technology skills, exclusively using Apple-based hardware and software.
The program is running at Apple stores across the U.S. and elsewhere. There are three tracks -- the first, Coding Games and Programming Robots, will use Tynker and Sphero products. Creating Characters and Composing Music will ask kids to draw story scenes using an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil, then add vocals and compose music with GarageBand. Stories in Motion with iMovie, finally, will see kids make short films.
Each Camp involves three 1.5-hour sessions. Dates range from July 10 through July 28, though many Camps may already be full. In those instances, parents or guardians can sign their kids up to a waiting list.
People who can't get into an Apple Camp may still be able to take advantage of the company's Kids Hours, which are launching this month under the Today at Apple banner. Sphero Maze Challenge, Draw Your Own Character, and Making Movies Together all isolate some of the skills of the full-length Camps, using the same apps and hardware.
