What to do with old G3?
So I'm a CS major (might go the ECS route), I've got a DP 533 G4, and I might be able to get my hands on an older G3 tower, 266MHz, 96MB RAM, 6GB HD, 6MB VRAM. The thing is, it would be free, but I don't want to take it unless I can get some use out of it. Apartment living means my space is scarce and if something is not in use it needs to go.
So, what use could I get out of this machine? Linux? Server of some sort? Firewall?
Currently there's 3 of us sharing DSL over a router w/4 port switch so it'd be easy enough to network...
So anyway... let me hear what you've got. Any and all suggestions please... Thanks.

It would save harddrive space, and iTunes uses alot of CPU. With broadband you probably get good internet radio, too.
I think I remember seeing a remote control for iTunes in Macmall's catalogue, that would make it real handy.

Beige G3 Tower ? G3 266, Mac OS X v.10.2.1, I use it as an MP3 server and player, its hooked up to my stereo
Upgrades for Beige G3s are cheap. With a $75-100 faster G3 it could be a good workstation. Rage128 cards give that system a huge boost in OS X and those can be found now for around $50.

There are applications that allow you to control iTunes over a network too.
A server is good. (HTTP, FTP, AppleTalk) You could set up another website, or use it to expand a current site. It also works as a dedicated server for games. (Quake, unreal, etc.) And has a built-in SCSI port if you didn't buy a SCSI card for your DP533.
Also good for a webcam and crunching SETI units.
<Reading WindowsXP ad at the top of the page> <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> Someone mucked up the target advertising.
EDIT: Beige G3's are good for Audio. They have RCA ports that hook up to most audio systems.
