[quote] Tablet PC also supports secure log on to a network using a single CTRL+ALT+DEL hardware button.

It's more about secure networking, but funny nonetheless.

Yup, that is a tablet PC requirement so all tablet pC must have it. However, ctrl-alt-del now is used for a variety of things now - on default it brings up the task manager and from there you can run/browse a task, kill a task, see CPU performance, shutdown/standby/hibernate/reboot, switch user (one feature I love on XP but OS X does not have!) etc.

So in effect, it's like several Mac .apps in one. Perhaps I have been using a PC too long but I am not sure I get the joke? I figure the joke is probably a reference to ctrl-alt-del in the pre w2k days?

If you have Windows configured securely, you have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before you can type your password, to ensure that trojans don't steal it. This is actually a good feature for people who care about security.

You haven't been around that long. Ctrl-Alt-Del has done this since NT, not Win2k. Yeah, in OS X we call that the terminal, it's like a thousand apps in one.

Why couldn't activating the login box do the same thing? That is, when it goes active it sends a ctrl+alt+del for you?

Yes, Serrano, I forgot. I have used this since Windows NT 4 but that was back in 1999. However, some of the functions I mentioned e.g. hibernate, switch users etc. has only been available since w2k.

However, comparison of Terminal is not exactly fair since most users do not touch terminal whereas every PC users know how to use ctrl-alt-delete!
