ATTN Murbot: Apple Store CANADA, eh?
If this ThinkSecret story is to be believed, we may be getting an Apple Store Canada just north of TO in 2004.
However, 2004 seems VERY optimistic for the Vaughan Mills mall project. Vaughan has been fvcking up plans for a major mall for over a decade now, and it's transit system is the biggest POS joke in Ontario. 407 & 400 instead got an outlet/theatre "power center" and the slightly more northerly site for Vaughan Mills (400 & Rutherford) was having trouble getting 60% occupancy on the first phase. It doesn't look to me, having seen the site, that it will be ready for anything near 175-200 shops in 2004.
Vaughan has been spinning some BS about fully 50% of stores coming from US based retailers with no previous presence in Canada. Probably goes back to the occupancy problems of a couple of years back.
If Apple really wants to do something great in Toronto, they should set up somewhere between the docks and UofT and take advantage of the convergence of our fairly wealthy inner city class, students, and "Hollywood North."
In a rare treat for the rest of AI, please join our thread and watch me bitch about something other than Apple, namely the pathetic state of urban planning in most of southern ontario. Or, we could talk about how cool it would be to have an Apple Store in Canada.
Murbot, you priming that credit card?

Seriously though, that would be GREAT. Give me a good excuse to travel to that end of the country and check it out.
Great news, eh?
BTW, what a relief to see this was about an ACTUAL Apple Store. I thought this was going to be a "murbot selling machine" type thread.

What'd be funny, I tell ya, is this thing opens up almost in my back yard and you get there before (and more often than) me.
I can see it now, Murbot, the little wife's a little peeved with your mac spending, so you offer her a nice weekend getaway to Toronto. Take in a show, a casino, a small detour to the Apple store...

Last time I was in Ontario was abut 27 years ago - I was still in diapers and drinking milk from the boob.
You know, one time you recommended Carbon Computing and CPUsed/PCUsed to me. I'm almost certain of it, seemed like you knew the city? Mebbe just the computing papers then? hahaha...
Whereabouts in Alberta? Calgara-Edmonton corridor? Never been there but it looks interesting.
The Mac culture in the west in a bit bigger than in the prairies. But much smaller than Ontario's for sure
I think you've been using some papers alright...
You've got the wrong Canuck. The only thing I know about your city is your football team SUCKS!
Oh, the Stamps.. yeah, nevermind.
Too bad there isn't a good tobacco shop around here for 80 miles...
Sucks living out in the middle of nowhere. Not as much as it must suck to live in Canada, though.
You've got me confused with someone else dude - maybe Kestral? He's in Toronto...

Let's just say that if an Apple Store were to open in Toronto, I would be a lock to run the place
PS: I agree, drinking milk from a boob *drool*

No wonder you subscribe Playboy
It's freakishly big, very touristy and upscale and whenever Apple has a mall tour going, it ends up there along with Fairview Mall on the other side of town.
I guess with Microwarehouse, dpimac and Red Tag/CPUsed in the West End, Apple decided to go North.
I would be interested to hear opinions of what would differentiate a Canadian Apple Store from a U.S. one, aside from the lower crime rate.
The POS Canadian dollar only amplifies the price gap between mac and PC.
Also, the "Mills" mall conglomerate is an American entity, and Apple might feel more comfortable with them.
If it were my choice, I'd put one right next to UofT/Queens park or Bay street.
