Asus aims portable ProArt PQ22UC 4K OLED monitor at on-the-move professionals
Asus has added a new high-end display to its range of professional monitors that is made for those who work on the move, with the ProArt PQ22UC consisting of a 21.6-inch 4K OLED panel with USB Type-C connectivity that can be easily transported as a second display for a MacBook Pro.
Boasting a resolution of 3,840 by 2,160, the ProArt PQ22UC's OLED panel offers a pixel density of 204 pixels per inch with a 0.1-millisecond response time and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The professional display covers 99 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, with it able to reproduce 1.07 billion colors, making it suitable for users in creative production fields.
The 10-bit color depth allows the PQ22UC to display smoother gradients and more natural-looking images. The RGB stripe OLED panel is said to produce primary hues natively, instead of filtering white light to display the right color.
Out of the box, the display is claimed to be highly accurate, with the factory calibration giving it a guaranteed Delta E color difference of less than 2. The included Asus ProArt Calibration feature helps users keep their colors consistent when used across multiple devices, by saving the color parameter profiles to the monitor itself instead of the host computer, transferring the settings between setups.
Connectivity options to a MacBook or another machine include two USB Type-C ports and micro HDMI. While it does come supplied with an AC adapter, it is also possible to power the monitor through a single USB Type-C cable with a sufficient power source.
It is also a highly portable display, with a weight 2.2 pounds making it lighter than a 13-inch MacBook Pro. The stand is able to detach and pack flat for easy transportation, but is still able to provide height and tilt adjustments when in use.
Asus plans to ship the ProArt PQ22UC later this year and has yet to provide pricing details, but the fact that it's a 4K-resolution OLED monitor aimed at professionals strongly suggests it will be an expensive proposition.

I can see the appeal, but 22" might be a bit big to just carry around. And given the probable price, I'll still be looking at a smaller, non-OLED screen. Or maybe just my iPad.
