Digital media and k-12 teaching

I am trying to find out a little information surrounding digital media in the classroom. A friend of mine who has worked in the movie industry as an editor for a number of years is thinking about changing careers to the educational field. He is interested in teaching/working with younger children, specifically working on computers using programs such as iMovie. Does anyone have any information or ideas on how to get started in terms of researching options, making contacts etc. obviously he needs to become certified(to teach in public schools, private you do not need to be certified). Basically he is interested in teaching digital media and film making to children. This person lives in LA, so if you know of any information/people in that are feel free to share.
