Did MacAddict get paid from Apple?

Anyone read Apple's hardware reviews from MacAddict?

I can't believe that they made a high praise on the latest PowerMacs.

Ever since this magazine is published it to me is an ultra biased magazine. Always defends for Apple with ridiculous "facts"........

All in all.....I find this magazine a joke.

Hey Leonis. Thanks for the Holiday greeting (needed a magnifying glass to read it )

I pretty much agree with you. But check out some Windows/PC mags and I think it's pretty much the same thing. These mags live on advertising and if they have to cow-tow to the companies they advertise or promote then that's why they fudge the truth.

Don't forget the software reviews...God are they bad. You see the word "virtually" three four times within a review...virtually does this, virtually speeds up your workload, virtually never crashes...

i pretty much disagree with both of you in a way, but hear me out -- here's why:

macaddict, long ago when they first came out, admitted up front that they make no apologies for being biased in apple's behalf, since the rest fo the industry for so long has ragged on apple with an equal amount of disinformation.

that having been said, their quality has dropped off SIGNIFICANTLY in the last 12 months or so. ever since dave reynolds and ian sammis left (the last remnants of the "old guard"), each issue is simply a rehashing of old issues feature stories, etc.

if you want a peek at the unabashed, in your face attitude, check out mac design magazine (scott kelby is EIC, i think). i love the way people keep writing in to the editor saying how biased all the writing is, yet they keep tlling them a.) yeah, dumbass, we know and we warned you and b.) we don't care. eventually, you think the morons who keep complaining would learn.

I guess I'm a wanker. I like the mag. I usually find a couple of things in an issue that I wouldn't have found out about in my daily jaunt around the Mac web.

Towers aren't bad at all. Put some headphones on (or earplugs in) and they're great.

Damn, the mag's name is 'MacAddict'. I dropped that subscription a while ago.

murbot, don't worry you're not alone... i don't find it so bad either. it's great bathroom reading material

Hmmm. I haven't read it for a long time. I remember, though, that it used to be pleasantly light-hearted. MacWorld is very serious, and it tell me stuff I already know. MacAddict had some nice editorials, mostly for comical reasons. MacWorld only had David Pogue, and he's a great mac advocate, but I never really enjoyed his back page articles.

And what specifically is wrong with the new powermacs?

And was this magazine addressed solely to you? I think not. If you don't like it, don't buy/read it.

I find the magazine to be ok..but I get most of all my mac info on the web. Though it is nice to sit back and read an actual magazine.

Hell, if a topic looks interesting enough, I'll run it off on the laser printer while I'm at work, and go sit at my desk and read it. I get tired of reading text on my internet computer web machine screen sometimes.

I have every single issue (neatly in order too). They did go down hill, and yes, they are biased now (like when they started) but this is because they are trying to make amends with Apple. Remember that Apple stripped them of their developer badge and took away software privildges for the cd that comes with the mag. In other words, I think they are in suck up mode, that's all. Buttering up old steve so maybe oneday they can get that right back.

I know this is a little off topic, I get MacDirectory,<a href="http://www.macdirectory.com"; target="_blank">MacDirectory web page</a>. I love that magazine, even though it is expensive and only comes four times a year.

Yeah I know that 4 issues a year stinks, but they are a great magazine when they come.

    What?

    Kris Fong is a HOTTIE!

    Kathy Lu too.....

And they're REALLY proactive about coming up with nifty projects for you to do, it's a great magazine for people who are just learning to explore their Mac.

I have every issue except for one....and the same for the CD's. The monthly CD is worth the price of admission, especially when you can't find an old driver on the 'net anymore.

And did I mention the ladies?

    Oh yeah, I did.

Yes, the macadict editors really take a VERY optimistic views about Apple's products.

I still remember one article about dream machines. You should have seen the price of those hardware!!!
