NO NEW MOUSE!

For those who thought that EOL rumors for the BLK pro mouse were herald of a new mouse design,

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

You can now buy both the white or black pro mice and keyboards seperately. I bet that when the supply of BLK runs out, that'll be it for black and Apple will go exclusively white.

SO, that's one thing Steve WON't announce on Wednesday.

let the 2 button hand wringing continue!

I will never live to see 2 button mouse on a Mac.

    Well, not from Apple anyways.

Of course, Apple could never be selling two different mice at the same time....

Oh wait, they're doing it right now.

I really don't see why Apple couldn't sell both one and two button mice...after all, some prefer one button and some prefer two.

I still don't get why it's so hard to understand that their white is exclusively for the consumer line (iPod, iBook, iMac, ...) while darker shades, metallic, black, ... is for the pro line.

I don't see why they wouldn't offer a two-button as a BTO option (costing the same)... That way the person buying could choose and have a mouse that looks "Apple". My optical Logitech is nice, but doesn't match my Mac.

Besides the whole switch campaign is designed to bring 2/3/4 button people to the Mac....

And similarly, a one button for consumer/2(or more) button for pro would also make sense. One more thing to differentiate the pro line....

I'm currently using a Logitech with my G3. It's just a pity that I'm forced to pay for an expensive mouse that I'll probably never use when I'll buy my next computer ...

The mice of the future should include two static non-mechanical sensors and a static scroll in the middle. Laser tracking is better than a ball: well, not true. Right now the ball is still better at tracking on an average horizontal surface, excluding maintenance. The laser will sometimes loose track of where it's at, because light can't simulate a physical object touching another object. It will only detect movement. And if, at the rate the light and sensor are pulsing equal the rate of movement on a repetive texture, than your laser mouse may become confused and decide not to move your cursor any further along the screen.

To make the laser more precise, you should still incorporate an x and y laser pickup (as a ball using mouse have "x" and "y" rollers). Higher quality mice should have one laser opposite each laser sensor because when light reflects off of a linear surface the incident angle equals the reflection angle.

Touch screens are an expesive and over all bad idea because you mess up the screen every time it's used, but good for commercial use where clarity isn't too much of an issue.

Track pads (or balls) only work when you don't have room for a mouse and it's pad.

In describing my ideal design for a pointing device, the mouse still holds the ideal design. It still needs to be re-architected to last longer (despite my one button Apple Desktop Bus Mouse fam numb: G5431 that came with an SE that has outlasted my newer more curved version).

Dunno about that one.....trackpad only on my powerbooks (until I find a decent "portable" trackball), and Macally optical trackball on the 9600. Never did like them mouse critters, give me hand cramps.

[evil] Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer...huge, and oh so comfortable. Totally worth the extra expense.

Dunno if it was said before but I don't think Apple will make a two button mouse, they rely too much on companies making products like mice (targeted towards mac users), and these companies end up making more mac focused/directed products as well, all part of the house of cards apple has builtt.

I tried one of those and found that the mouse still skipped, I read an article recently about Micropants bringing out an optical mouse which scans the surface 4 times faster (I think) than current mice, does anyone know if this will make a difference?

I hate Microsoft but have two of their mice, I'd rather Kensington concentrated on a mouse that fits nicely in your hand rather than a gimmiky scroll sensor

The only thing that could possibly account for the price tag of the Pro Mouse is the R&D.

Well, that's surely paid off, so what's the bet a silently updated pro-mouse with a 6000fps camera arrives?

I don't give a rats about Apple's mice, even if they have a 3-button I would still buy a 5-button MS for games.

I just think (as has been suggested many, many times) that an IntelliMouse Explorer 3 should be an BTO option. Maybe that would calm the savage (MS) beast, so upset it is with Apple's marketing.

Fact:A Logitech Dual Optical is more precise than a Razer "The best" Boomslang 2000.

The LDO doesn't have a ball that spins back and forth, and no rollers that need cleaning.

Fact:A Logitech Dual Optical tracks surfaces better than a M$ Intellim00se 'Xploder 3.

Fact:A Logitech Dual Optical glides better on surfaces than a M$ Intellim00se 'Xploder 3.

    Logitech Dual Optical as BTO!

I still don't why it's so hard to read a web page. Go to Accessories in the Apple store. YOU CAN BUY EACH ONE SEPERATELY! They may recommend the Black for powermacs/books and the White for iMacs/books, but there's nothing stopping a powermac user from buying a white mouse, or an iMac owner form buying a black mouse. Same goes for the keyboard.

When the white first came out, you could only get it with the new iMac and eMac. Even the old iMacs still come with the black keyboard. With the old iMac set to retire and the QS set for at least a bump, you can see that the BLK Apple Pro periphs are on their way out. White wouldn't have been made available to EVERYONE if they'd intended it to be exclusive to the pro-lines.
