The best time to purchase new hardware...

...is right after new hardware announcements! I just picked up a 22in. Cinema display from Small Dog for $1378! This morning when I ordered it, there were only 27 left...now there is less than 11.

I had plans to purchase one of the new 20in or even go whole-hog and get the reduced price 23in, but I think we've all lusted after the 22in ever since it came out two years ago, now they're actually affordable!

Anyone else jump on some good deals over the last 48hrs?

yes, the best idea is to purchase right after they come out because with that you are assured maximum time before it is not new any more...

HOWEVER: If you do that, you open yourself to big let down when a newer model comes out with a better feature set...

EXAMPLE: Buying the 15" PowerBook 1Ghz when it just came out, only to find that you really wanted the 12" PowerBook.... wait until you get what you want and that will hold you for a while, and the technology is not out there to screw you over

For my PowerMac 450Mhz G4, I got it as a present (awesome present, no?) And I remember I got it at the price and feature set before it became the high end and was still the mid.... I mean, hey, it is all good in the hood,

I think it is just the greatest feeling to know you have the fastest computer of your kind out there, and then, kamblam-o! Your computer is old and you got PCI card length envyyou know what I mean..... <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" /> <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

Well no I bought a new PowerBook. I wish Smalldog would lash another pomeranian to that order because I'm getting antsy.

I buy when I need. Held off for MW. Was looking at the PowerBook before that and the 12" had me at first site.

the best way to maximize your $ (if you dont have any murbot-like connections): as soon as new hardware is announced/released buy the previous line at greatly reduced prices... sure, you wont have the latest and the greatest, but it will be pretty good and still be current, plus the next time new hardware is announced, you wont take such a hit in terms of resale value going down...

if you DO have murbot-like connections in E-Bay and Apple, just do what he does... buy the newest and sell just before the next update
