Help Me Switch Back

I admit I made a mistake. I really want to do the right thing, but Steve keeps the prices just out of my reach.

Does anyone have an older Mac that they would part with for just a song and a dance (or know someone that does)? I just want something that will run OS X to show my wife how much better it is. I swear I will start saving for a brand new one right away, and I will help someone else in the future.

Older mac's probably won't be able to run OSX. You need at least a G3, and even then it will lag behind. I would take her to the nearest computer store and show her what they have.

You could buy <a href="http://www.electricimage.com"; target="_blank">Electric Image</a>, get the free ibook and sell the software for a discount and save some money that way.

Well I was trying to avoid shelling out 1200 bucks to begin with. Does anyone here want to split the price with me and take the software off my hands?? Yeah, I didn't think so. More ideas please.

Heh.. that Electric Image deal is a cute way of spinning 'Buy an iBook from us and get some free software'

I am not at all familiar with that software, and certainly don't want it. What is the usual price for it anyway?

According to their site, it's about $1200. Think about it, you go for this deal, ebay the software for about $600 and get the ibook for $600. Not too bad, if you can find someone willing to take it off your hands. (And this would be perfectly legal.) Seems like the best way to get a new computer for relatively cheap....provided you can sell the software.

Edit: Ebay is also a good option. Here's a pretty good deal on what looks to be a practically brand new Snow G3 iMac.

I like the suggestions, but I am serious when I say I am not looking to spend much. I can't believe that used snow iMac is selling for as much as a new one!!!

And there doesn't appear to be any demand for that software on ebay.

I am not looking for a fast machine, just something for email/www that will run OSX. I am in disbelief that it costs so much to switch, even at the low end.

Exactly how much are you willing to pay? $200? $300?

You're going to have a lot of trouble finding a capable computer at that price. I think that the minimum spec wise you would need is a 400mhz G3 and 384megs of ram to run OS X comfortably. 400mhz iMac a going for more than that currently. Who knows, maybe you can get lucky...

i am using an original g3 tower 266 mhz and os x works fine (granted i upgraded the video card and "maxed" out the ram but anyway... rams cheap and so are decent video cards)

The thing that really sucks is I used to swear that Bill Gates was Satan and swore to never buy a PC. Then I got one for compatibility for work, and sold my B&W G3 350 because I stopped using it. I do still have my beautiful 7500 but a G3 upgrade for that is still like $50-90 and as I recall I can't install OSX on it anyway (can I?).

Has't anyone upgraded lately and thought about donating their old Bondi iMac? I was a very convincing Mac converter back in the day. Get me back on the right side, and that would be a great thing for the mac movement.

Anyone willing to trade for a 7500/200?
