I'm in LA for one more day, is it worthwhile going to Fry's? Is it just like a CompUSA?

Don't buy opened/returned stuff. I have mostly bad luck with returned stuff i bought. (You can tell by the plastic bands and a returned sticker on the box) But yea, them have boatloads of stuff.

If you haven't been to one, it's fun to go in at least once and browse. They basically sell anything that runs on electricity. Their prices are not the best, but the selection is pretty good. As noted before, they have a generous return policy, so there's a lot of returned stuff on the shelf -- there's a sticker on the box if it is. Note that they often take something back and put it right on the shelf, w/o bothering to make sure it works, etc. Also, staff pretty dumb. A lot of B-grade computer geek wannabes. Lots of time I have to bite my tongue when I overhear them giving other customers advice.

You have to dig for the good deals. Try browsing the "Hot Deals" section of <a href="http://forums.anandtech.com/"; target="_blank">http://forums.anandtech.com/</a>; for example...

<a href="http://www.outpost.com/"; target="_blank">Outpost.com</a> Has almost everything at Fry's. Not much in the ways of deals though. Some other places for Fry's deals are newspapers (Mine is always the last page of the business section except Tuesdays. ) Today they had a 64Mb USB keychain drive for $9.95. Too bad I already have a 128Mb one.
