My Switch Story

So I've moved the LCD iMac to another room and got me a PC for daily use. This thing (Athlon 2600+) may not be the fastest thing out but it sure as hell slaughters my iMac in just about every task. I'm still gonna use the iMac ocasionally (maybe for DV stuff) but this PC is amazing and XP really isn't that bad. It's kind of ugly but it's not too bad. And the whole world of games has opened up to me as a result of me getting the PC. I really didn't know what I was missing, and the internet is so much faster too. All this talk about how PCs suck is utter crap. I REALLY miss iTunes though. This is possibly the best app, EVER. I love macs but on the desktop side, the price/performance ratio frankly sucks. But I'll still be buying a PowerBook this summer and after seeing the 12" model, all I can say is WOW.

He didn't trade his iMac... it's just in the other room. Or did you mean traitor?

G4Dude, I'm glad you're having a better PC experience than mine. Mine just died... again. This time I'm letting it stay that way. It's death marks the end of my transition into pure Macdom.

Having a PC is always less stressful when, in the back of your mind, you know there's a Mac in the other room, just in case.

Yup, windows XP isn't all that bad. Its just that most hardware running XP looks like crap.

I bought a PC last week for about US$500. Its mainly for my school and gaming purposes. So far, it still have not crash yet, but I must admit that the computing experience is so much more satisying on a Mac.

windows XP isnt that bad eh?

i switched to macs in december, untill i was a devoted PCite, i build them and diagnose problems as a part time job. to get to the point windows XP is more stable than the 95 base, but it still has the registry which once you start installing and unistalling software you are going to run into problems eventually. I ran XP for about 10 months, during those 10 months i had to retype several lines back into the registry and format the HD about 6 times. In short its a bitch with a bad attitude and it will screw you around.

Well in the sence that there is a tool for every job and you feel that the Windows XP box allows you to do so much more, its cool doesn't bother me at all. But, wait 6-8 months when XP gets so bloated from software installs and general crap that its slowed down to a turtles pace. Oh, and the only way to fix it is to reinstall XP cleanly, oh and then there is the hoops you have to jump through if you ever upgrade your machine or add hardware. But hey it doesnt bother me, I don't play games so I don't care. I would have bought an XBox or PS2 or even a game cube for $200 rather then a win XP box to play games on... just my $.02

This is the big question for me too. The only reason I'm thinking about buying/building a barebones PC is for the $2000 worth of 'free' audio apps I have for it. As my pc audio apps get old, I'm sure I'll replace them with Mac counterparts. Already I have Reason 2.0 (fully paid and registered). I'm looking into Bias Studio LE to replace cool edit and Acid Pro 3....or maybe Live 2.0.

When I get some pro rig, I want mbox with Pro Tools. Yummy. By that time, all the audio app devs might be caught up on OS X.

This is OT but I know The Crystal Method uses acid in vpc on a powerbook. Just a thought.
