Good question i am in the same boat. Cash in hand and ready to order. To be honest with ya I am just waiting for just about another month. Reason being, i am hoping apple can get the new 15" straighten out and shipping. If not 1ghz Tibook for me. Seems everyone is happy with the performance of it. Good luck.

i guess a 15 inch alubook wont be released before the 17 inch ship...which is march20 - mid april

all i have to say...cause there are no features known about the 15 inch...except rumors...

I rather suspect that the longer people hold off purchases on 15" TiBooks, the longer it's going to be before the revised machine hits the shelves...

Realistically, the new 15" machines are going to have Bluetooth, Firewire 800, Airport Extreme, DDR RAM and the GeForce4 graphics set if they're to fit it the new range: I'm less sure the backlit keyboard will make it to this machine, so it's up for grabs as to how much of a real-world improvement you'll see over the TiBooks.

    I hope you don't expect me to translate your Canadian. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Here's what you should do. Take the 17" PowerBook, replace the screen with a 15" screen and figure out if it's worth waiting for.

Remember that according to some, you are downgrading the video card from the Radeon 9000 Mobility to the Nvidia GeForce 440 Go. You also lose the ability to boot into Mac OS 9.

What you gain is a Firewire 800 port, internal bluetooth, Airport Extreme, and maybe a backlit keyboard.

Don't expect any gains in processor speed, optical drive speed, RAM, or HD space.

So the question is do you care about Firewire 800 and Airport Extreme, or do you want a fast machine now?

    not that easy....

the 17 inch is built much better....sturdier...more durable.

the airport reception based on the new 12 inch should be FAR better than the 15 inch

    big issues.

There isn't anything wrong with my PowerBook at all - it's an awesome computer. But, I'd wait for the 15 inch so you won't be pissed when they come out with it.

You should get the 12 Alubook because the alu15 is just a rumor for now and you could be waiting a while. Plus thr 12 is smaller = lighter= more portablilty= actually fits in lap/ airplane traytable.

Well I was just using it as a basis for specs. As far as I've seen, Airport reception in the 1 GHz TiBook has been exactly on par with what my Pismo was.

As for sturdiness, I haven't seen the 17" AlBook so I really can't comment on it. My TiBook seems to be a sturdy machine so far.

The main concern I have with a 15" AlBook and the 17" AlBook is the heat generated from the components. If the 12" gets warm to touch in it's sturdy 'iBook like' case, one can only imagine what will happen with the 15" or 17". I know the heat might be able to dissipate over a larger area but we don't know.

I think if you need a 1 GHz PowerBook now, need to boot in to Mac OS 9, or just want the Radeon 9000 over the Nvidia GeForce 440, you should get the TiBook. If you need Airport Extreme, internal bluetooth, and a backlit keyboard and can wait through April or May to buy, then wait for the 15" AlBook or pick up the 17" AlBook.

I already have a 15" TiBook, albeit at 800 MHz and not 1 GHz, but if the TiBook weren't still so new I'd be getting a 12" for myself right now. I might not be able to resist when the second version of the 12" comes out.

I love my TiBook, but having experienced how much more compact and sturdy a 12" AluBook feels, I'd willingly sacrifice the extra screen real estate for the extra portability.

Not that this helps your current decision, but I'm hoping for myself that the next 12" will gain a couple of things it's missing now, like DVI and L3 cache.

I dont' know what it is with airport you people are saying on the TI book. I can go across the street, to my neighbors house and use it over there and I get 2 bars. The only thing I notice is that my battery doesn't last long. Its the 1GHZ one I just got it right before the 12inch's came out. Frankly I don't like the alu look, just somethen about it, and the finish on the trackpad to me is annoying.
