So how long untill Apple Legal sues these guys asses off ? e.Digital has made an EXACT iPod copy (even with the same GUI and meny system, and a scroll wheel), circular buttons). The only difference is - the display is blue, and the shell has an alumunum color.

Their website even states that:

[quote] "The Odyssey 1000 sets the standard by which all other portable entertainment products will now be judged. It is the result of our first joint project with our strategic development partner Digitalway. It combines an elegant, world class industrial design from Digitalway?s award-winning engineering team with e.Digital?s state-of-the-art, patented audio technology. There is nothing else available that matches its elegant looks, full range of features, and cutting-edge Drag ?n RipTM technology."

What a rip off!!

I read on Slashdot that the company might have some financial problem and is currently mentioned in the same breath as vaporware.

    Search for "SCAM"

If this product becomes a reality, Apple may have a lawsuit about the design of the player, but that would be about it. If they use the same gui and OS as the iPod, that is Apple's fault. If Apple made the same mistake that IBM made with MS 25 years ago, they deserve to have other players use the same OS. Perhaps this will encourage Apple to go with an inhouse OS instead. I always thought the went with the third party OS as the most expediant way to get the product out. It's not as though Apple doesn't have experience with portable light weight Oses. And with the BeOS guys who are now on staff, it should be within reason that Apple could fairly easily come outwith a small, portable OS that came handle multimedia very well. The could either go with a modified and updated NewtonOS or an OSX-lite os.

This product also has lots of features that the iPod should have had, and at the price the iPod should have been. Apple deserves to loose some sales. If this company is willing to go after the low hanging fruit of low-cost buyers, then maybe Apple will finally realize we do not all have tonnes of extra cash to give to them. Apple has every right to set their prices as high as they like, but if it costs them sales, it is their own fault.
